Set up alertsFrequently asked questions
What is advertisement consent?
A separate consent (distinct from planning permission) required for most external advertisements — fascia signs, projecting signs, billboards, posters. Some smaller and non-illuminated signs are covered by 'deemed consent' under the Advertisement Regulations.
Do you need permission for an illuminated sign?
Yes — illumination of an external sign almost always requires advertisement consent. Internally illuminated fascia signs, totem signs and box signs are explicitly outside deemed-consent provisions and need a full application.
Can I get email alerts for signs & adverts planning applications anywhere in Scotland?
Yes. Click the "Set up alerts" button on this page and you'll get a daily (or weekly) email listing every new signs & adverts application submitted anywhere in Scotland. No need to pick a postcode or draw a map — pick the category once, choose your frequency, and we'll do the rest.
